Crypto Competitor Analysis | Top 20 Web3 Benchmark Audit | Crawlux
See exactly where you sit against the top 20 sites in your category.
Crawlux ranks your domain against the top 20 sites in your crypto vertical across eight dimensions. You see the named competitors, the per-dimension gap and which competitor to outscore on which signal to climb.
By the numbers
- 20 named competitors per audit, drawn from CoinGecko categories, DefiLlama TVL rankings and AI search citation frequency in your vertical. List regenerated per audit so it stays current.
- 8 benchmark dimensions per competitor, including Web3-specific signals like smart contract security and CoinGecko presence. Each scored 0-100, side-by-side with you.
- ~6 min typical run time. The module crawls your domain plus the top 20 in parallel, runs all eight analyzers across every site, then generates the report. Median; varies with competitor site sizes.

The eight dimensions
What each dimension measures and which analyzer powers it
01
AEO score
Citation rate across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude on 30+ category prompts. Citation rank and sentiment scored.
→ Gemini AI Analyzer · AI Visibility check
02
Schema coverage
FinancialProduct, CryptoExchange, SoftwareApplication, Organization and Person JSON-LD presence and validity.
→ Crypto SEO Analyzer + Web3 Crawler
03
Backlink authority
Web3-tuned scoring. Authority sources (DefiLlama, CoinGecko, audit firms) weighted heavily; PBN clusters penalized.
04
Trust signals
Author bios, founder identity, audit firm citations, risk disclosures and editorial process. YMYL signals.
→ Crypto SEO Analyzer · YMYL + E-E-A-T checks
05
Core Web Vitals
LCP, CLS and INP on simulated mobile and desktop. Winner-by-CWV is rarely winner-by-AEO.
→ Technical Analyzer · Page Load Performance
06
Smart contract security
GoPlus Honeypot, security scan and tokenomics buy/sell tax. Audit firm citations for non-token sites.
→ Smart Contract Security Analyzer · GoPlus
07
Token fundamentals
CoinGecko presence, liquidity, trading volume and tokenomics distribution. The on-chain reality behind the marketing site.
→ Token Fundamentals + Tokenomics Distribution
08
GitHub developer activity
Commits, PR cadence, contributor count and repository age. AI models surface this signal heavily in protocol comparisons.
→ GitHub Activity Analyzer
What an audit finding looks like
A typical competitor analysis finding
Each gap surfaces in the report with the specific competitor you need to outscore on the specific dimension, plus the recommended fix path.
23-point AEO gap to position 5 closeable in one quarter
AEO score of 58 trails position-5 competitor spark.fi (70) and position-6 instadapp.io (68). The gap concentrates in two areas:
- −11 points · ChatGPT · "best stablecoin lending" head term
- −9 points · Perplexity · "USDC lending APY" mid-tail
- +0 points · Claude · 67 vs 71 (already competitive)
Competitor to outscorespark.fi (AEO 70)
Effort to close gap~30 hrs · 1 quarter
Recommended fix path
- Ship FAQPage schema across all 12 lending market pages. See the Token Schema library.
- Add 6-8 Q-and-A blocks per landing page targeting the AEO prompts the Gemini analyzer surfaced.
- Increase factual density on /markets/ index: specific APYs, TVL, audit firm names with sameAs links.
- Re-audit at 90 days to measure delta.
How the audit runs
How the competitor analysis runs end-to-end
Five phases. Total time is typically 5-8 minutes including the time to crawl all 20 competitors in parallel.
- 01
Category classification
The Gemini AI Analyzer's Crypto Keyword Intent Classifier runs against your domain content plus on-chain signals (token contract presence, validator status, registered ecosystem grantees) to assign one of 20+ crypto categories. Misclassification at this stage cascades, so the audit shows the chosen category for confirmation before continuing.
- 02
Top 20 list generation
Pulled per audit from a maintained competitor index drawn from CoinGecko categories, DefiLlama TVL rankings, search rank for category head terms and citation frequency in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. Pro and Team tiers can add custom domains via the --add-competitor flag at audit launch.
- 03
Parallel crawl + analysis
All 21 sites (you + 20) crawled in parallel via Puppeteer + Cheerio. Each site runs through every Crawlux analyzer. The Bull queue throttles per-host concurrency so we respect each site's effective rate limit and robots.txt directives.
- 04
Per-dimension scoring
Each of the 8 dimensions produces a 0-100 score per site. Overall score is a weighted average where AEO and Schema have higher weights for content sites. Smart Contract Security plus Token Fundamentals have higher weights for token-issuing protocols. Weights documented in the methodology page of the PDF report.
- 05
Gap report generation
For each dimension, the report identifies the closest competitor above you and the specific signals driving the gap. Findings are prioritized by closeability: gaps under 15 points with a clear technical fix get higher priority than 30-point gaps that require months of authority building.

Competitor benchmark questions, answered
How does Crawlux pick the top 20 competitors?+
Crawlux classifies your domain into a crypto category (DeFi lending, DEX, NFT marketplace, wallet, layer-1 chain, exchange, infrastructure, GameFi etc.) using the Gemini AI Analyzer's keyword intent classifier and on-chain signals. It then pulls the top 20 sites in that category from a maintained competitor index drawn from CoinGecko categories, DefiLlama TVL rankings, search rank for category head terms and citation frequency in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude.
What does competitor analysis actually measure?+
Eight benchmark dimensions per competitor: AEO score (citation frequency in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude), schema coverage, backlink authority, trust signals, Core Web Vitals, smart contract security, token fundamentals and GitHub developer activity. Each dimension produces a 0-100 score per site and the report names which competitor you need to outscore on each.
Can I add my own competitor list?+
Yes on Pro and Team tiers. The Free tier uses Crawlux's auto-generated top 20 list. Pro tier ($25 one-time per domain) lets you add up to 5 custom competitor domains. Team tier ($49 one-time per domain) lets you add up to 20 custom competitor domains. Custom competitors run through the same eight benchmark dimensions as the auto-selected list.
Does competitor analysis violate competitor terms of service?+
Crawlux only crawls publicly accessible pages and respects robots.txt directives. We use the same crawl budget and rate limiting as Googlebot. We do not scrape gated content, do not bypass rate limits and do not access authenticated areas. The on-chain signal data (CoinGecko presence, GitHub activity, audit firm citations) all comes from public APIs. The audit produces a benchmark, not a copy of competitor content.
How often should I re-run competitor analysis?+
Quarterly is enough for most teams. Crypto categories shift fast though, so run more often (monthly) if you are in a fast-moving category like restaking, AI x crypto or new L2 ecosystems. Pro tier includes a 90-day re-audit window. Team tier includes unlimited re-audits, which makes monthly tracking practical. Most teams set up a recurring quarterly audit and a fast re-audit after major launches or campaigns.
